2) Scope

This page applies to:

• the Trace website/landing page,
• downloads (e.g. PKG/ZIP, appcast),
• and – as described below – the Trace app (in particular licensing/updates).

For enquiries, purchases, and licensing, we process the data needed to prepare and fulfill contracts, meet legal obligations, and operate securely. Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis depends on the purpose: contract, legal obligation, legitimate interests, or consent when required.

3) No app telemetry, cookie-free website analytics

The Trace app continues to use no telemetry, advertising, or profiling.

This website uses our self-hosted, cookie-free Argio Web Analytics. It measures limited events such as page views, active time in a visible tab, fixed scroll levels, approved actions, and broad Web Vital classes. Only aggregates are kept long term, not individual browsing histories.

Your IP address is technically visible during transmission. The analytics service handles it briefly in memory to estimate the country, recognize our own traffic, and group events under a pseudonymous context that changes daily. Raw IP addresses and full browser identifiers are not stored in the analytics database or its backups. This brief processing is not fully anonymous.

Daily contexts and their keys are removed within 24 hours; duplicate-event data within one hour. Hourly aggregates are kept for 30 days, daily aggregates for 13 months, and monthly aggregates for 36 months. Form data and cross-domain profiles are not part of analytics. GPC, DNT, and the local opt-out below prevent analytics requests; the website remains usable.

4) Hosting and server logs

When you visit this website, the web server processes technical data such as:

• IP address,
• date/time,
• requested page/file,
• status code,
• transferred data volume,
• browser/device information (user agent).

Purpose

Website operation, troubleshooting, stability/security (e.g. mitigating abuse).

Retention

As short as possible; typically a few days up to ~30 days (depending on hosting).

5) Cookies

This website does not set tracking cookies. If technically necessary cookies are used (e.g. for language preferences), they are solely for operating the website and not for tracking.

6) Contact

If you contact us by email, we process the data you provide (e.g. email address, message content) to respond to your request.

Retention: As long as necessary for handling your request, and potentially longer if statutory retention obligations apply (e.g. purchase-related correspondence).

7) Purchase/checkout and payment processing (FastSpring)

If you buy Trace, payment is processed by FastSpring (merchant of record). FastSpring processes payment and transaction data (e.g. billing/payment details) and provides your receipt.

We receive only the information we need to associate the purchase and provide support (e.g. an order/transaction reference and typically an email address for receipts/license delivery).

For details, FastSpring's privacy policy also applies.

8) Downloads / update checks

When you download installers or updates from our domain, server logs are generated as described in section 4. We do not use these requests for profiling.

9) Trace app: licensing, activation, and updates

9.1 Licensing (key & activation)

If you use licensing, Trace communicates with the licensing service (Keygen) for activation/validation.

Data minimization

Trace transmits only the data necessary for licensing:

• license key
• and a pseudonymous installation identifier (no serial number, no hardware UUID, no MAC address, no username/hostname).

9.2 Updates

Updates are delivered via signed updates (e.g. appcast/update feed). Updates are technically downloaded from a server (server logs as described in section 4).

10) Your rights

Depending on applicable law, you may request access to and correction of your personal data, and in some cases deletion, restriction, or a copy of it. Rights such as objection and data portability depend on the legal basis. We may ask for reasonable proof of identity and will explain any lawful limitation. You may contact the Swiss FDPIC or another competent supervisory authority.

11) Data security

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data from unauthorized access (e.g. TLS/HTTPS, minimal data collection, access restrictions).

We may update this page if the website, app, or legal requirements change. The current version applies.
